Technology

Using open source technologies, Java, Linux, Apache and Tomcat in a Software-as-a-Service (“SaaS) delivery model, the WingSpread technology is flexible and extendable. The architecture allows for ease of customization and integration with other technologies to enhance the reach and effectiveness of the WingSpread applications. Some options for integration include Enterprise Resource Planning, Project Management, Human Resource Information Systems, and other systems.

The user facing portion of the system is organized into modules that functionally aligned. This type of layout enables a flexible security module where different levels of user access can be granted at the module level.

Key modules within WingSpread include:

  • Taxonomy and Profile Management: Creation and management of company taxonomies and Position Profiles. This is where skills are added and maintained, along with the master taxonomy that contains the entire hierarchy of skills contained within the WingSpread tool set.
  • Training Resources: A key capability of WingSpread is identifying skills gaps. Once these are clear, matching training to the gap enables and empowers the organization and the individual. By linking training to specific skills, gaps can be closed creating a more effective employee.
  • Recruiting Resources: Tools for matching prospective employees to positions are contained in the module. Users are able to search for possible contenders and then compare them numerically and graphically.
  • Executive Resources: Users can input corporate goals and then determine whether the organization has the skills needed to achieve them. There are tools to look at the overall picture of skills for the organization to pinpoint shortages/overages at the all levels in the organization hierarchy.
  • Human Resources: Succession planning, individual profile review, and underutilization of skills are the tools found in this module. Intended for the HR professional, this module is focused on the individual within the organization.
  • Support and Admin: There are a number of tools built into WingSpread to facilitate not only the management of the tool set, but also the user experience. Things such as Help, Wikis, and a customer support ticketing system are key components for managing WingSpread.
